Bula bula!
We are wrapping up our time in Vermont at the Putney Student Travel offices, putting the last minute touches on our trip together this summer. We´re planning two amazing weeks in the village of Navakawau (on the island of Taveuni)—and some really fun adventures before, during, and after our village stay.
It’s a really special time to be back in Navakawau because many of the homes and structures were badly damaged by a tropical cyclone in 2016. We’ll be able to partner with them to participate in the rebuilding, and have an amazing cultural exchange.
Our trip focuses on service and cultural exchange, but we can’t go to the soft coral capital of the world without getting in the water and exploring. In fact, we’ll explore land, water, forests, and communities in all sorts of enlightening ways!
It’s not too early to start thinking about your independent projects! The idea is to find something that is super interesting to you that you can investigate or engage in and then teach the rest of us all about it. We are definitely starting to think about ours. So tap your brain or maybe some online or other resources that we sent you in a list, and think about what you want to dive into (pun definitely intended). You will have lots of time for developing ideas once we are there, so don’t worry if you don’t have any ideas just yet.
Fiji is such a magical place. We will have a life-expanding, incredible experience there.
We look forward to meeting you in person in just a couple of weeks!
