Right from the start, today was a great day. We woke up after a good night’s sleep to breakfast prepared by the family we are staying with. After a good meal, we all split up to do service in different parts of the village—three people cooked, three taught at the school, and six did construction, helping set the foundation for the medical dispensary in the center of the village. People at Navakawau have been extremely welcoming from the get-go and the kids have not been hesitant to attach themselves to members of the group. At the school, I taught third graders multiplication and how to read clocks. The kids were always excited to see me and they greeted me with such excitement and joy, something one can always appreciate. After school, we went to bathe with the kids at the beach, and it felt great to spend time with the kids in the water and clean ourselves after a long, hot day in the sun. We then had a good dinner followed by a meeting with the group. It was a good day, and I especially enjoyed being able to connect with the kids and get to know them well. They all were bright, full of energy, and super compassionate.
