Starting the Work Week

The following post features student writing.

On Monday, the group participated in the normal rotations in the village. This consists of three people helping in the kitchen, three people helping in the school, and six people helping out at the construction site. At the school Dylan and Izzy taught the students time and read to them. After lunch Dylan helped teach the boys gardening and how to tie knots, and played netball with the girls. Netball consists of two basketball hoops without backboards. The point of the game is to get the ball into the hoops. The catch is that you can’t move and it is a lot harder without a backboard. At the kitchen they made us lunch and dinner, and cleaned our plates. The construction crew continued working on the medical dispensary.

On Monday night we went to a social with the secondary school students from the village. It was a good experience to meet other people in the village. Dylan got the chance to play his music! Today (Tuesday), was a very rainy day. Dylan and Izzy helped out in the kitchen (and Dylan held a pig leg and met the chief). We all hung out at the boys’ house while it was raining and played games such as Mad Libs and Mafia. We had a delicious dinner made by Dylan and Izzy and ended the night with a group meeting.
